Getting started with your Enshrouded server

This guide takes you from your order to your first connection: choosing a plan, getting around the Game Panel, joining from the game and making the first settings. The other pages of this section then cover configuration, roles, backups and troubleshooting in detail.

Choosing a plan

YorkHost offers Enshrouded server hosting on AMD Ryzen or Intel CPUs, NVMe storage and a 10 Gbps network, with Anti-DDoS protection and 7/7 support on Discord. Four plans are available:

Ember36 GB30 GB NVMe€6.99/month1 to 4 players, for exploring Embervale with friends
Flameborn48 GB40 GB NVMe€9.99/month5 to 8 players, best all-round value

The reference prices and specifications are the ones shown on the Enshrouded page of the YorkHost website at the time of ordering.

How to choose?

An Enshrouded dedicated server holds up to 16 players, a cap set by the game: every plan can therefore host 16 players. What changes from one tier to the next is mainly CPU power.

  • Enshrouded is fairly light on memory, even with a full group.
  • The voxel world, enemies and building physics, on the other hand, lean hard on the processor, and clock speed matters more than core count.
  • The bigger your group and the more ambitious your bases, the more comfortable a tier with more vCores will be.

These are guidelines: you can upgrade from your client area whenever your group grows.

Version 1.0

Enshrouded version 1.0 is announced for October 15, 2026. Its hardware requirements aren't known yet: the Embervale plan keeps some headroom. See Preparing for the 1.0 update.

Accessing the Game Panel

Your server is managed from the Game Panel (Wisp):

  1. Log in to your Game Panel:
  2. Select your Enshrouded server
  3. You land on the Console: this is where you start, stop and restart the server, and follow its startup in real time

The most useful tabs for Enshrouded:

TabUse
ConsoleStart / stop the server, read the logs
FilesFile manager: enshrouded_server.json, world save folder
StartupStartup parameters exposed by the panel
BackupsServer backups
SchedulesScheduled tasks, for example an automatic restart

To transfer files (importing a world, copying a save), you can also use SFTP access. The credentials are in Settings → SFTP Details: see SFTP extension for VSCode or use a client such as FileZilla or WinSCP.

A Windows environment managed for you

The official Enshrouded dedicated server is built for Windows. At YorkHost, that environment and the ports are managed for you: there's nothing to install, you just configure the server and play.

Longer first start

On the very first launch, the server installs its files and creates the world. Let the console run without restarting until the server is ready: restarting repeatedly only makes the wait longer.

Finding the IP address and port

The server address is shown in the Game Panel, on your server's page, in the IP:PORT format.

For reference, the game's default ports are 15636 and 15637 (UDP), but at YorkHost the port is assigned by the panel and will be different. Always use the one shown in the panel. Opening the required ports is handled on our side (see Are all ports open?).

Do not change the ports manually

Do not change the port values (queryPort, and gamePort depending on the version) or the ip address in enshrouded_server.json: the server must listen on the port assigned by the panel, otherwise it will be unreachable.

Joining the server from the game

Once the panel console has settled (the server has finished starting):

  1. Launch Enshrouded
  2. Choose Join to open the server list
  3. Search for your server by its name (the one set in enshrouded_server.json)
  4. Join it and enter the password when prompted

The password you enter decides your role group (admin, friend, guest): see Roles, passwords and administration.

The server doesn't show up in the list?

Make sure the console has finished starting, then try again filtering by name. Alternatively, add the IP:PORT shown in the panel to your favorites in the Steam server browser (View → Game Servers → Favorites), then join from there. See Troubleshooting.

Your character (level, skills, inventory) is stored on your PC, independently of the world: you can join the server with an existing character. The world (builds, chests, map progress) is stored on the server.

Same version as the server

The client must be on the same version as the server. If Steam updated your game but not the server (or the other way around), the connection fails. See Troubleshooting.

The first three things to set up

  1. Server name: pick the name shown in the server list, see Configure enshrouded_server.json.
  2. Passwords per role: set a different password for each group (Admin, Friend, Guest), see Roles, passwords and administration.
  3. Difficulty: pick a preset or switch to custom mode before starting the real game, see Configure enshrouded_server.json.

Already have a local world? See Importing a world.
