Getting started with your The Isle Evrima server

This guide takes you from your order to your first connection: choosing a plan, getting around the Game Panel, joining from the game and making the first settings. The other pages of this section then cover configuration, administration, backups and troubleshooting in detail.

Choosing a plan

YorkHost offers The Isle Evrima server hosting on AMD Ryzen or Intel CPUs, NVMe storage, with Gcore Anti-DDoS protection and 7/7 support on Discord. The official dedicated server is installed on the Evrima branch and runs natively on Linux. Four plans are available:

The reference prices and specifications are the ones shown on the The Isle page of the YorkHost website at the time of ordering.

How to size your server

On The Isle Evrima, two factors matter more than the raw slot count:

  • The CPU: Evrima's simulation (AI, movement, combat) relies largely on one main core. It is often what limits a busy server.
  • AI density: the more AI creatures you spawn, the more RAM the server uses. A server that idles light can use several times more with dense AI. See AI, playable dinosaurs and growth.

These are guidelines: you can move up to a bigger plan from your client area as your community grows.

Accessing the Game Panel

Your server is managed from the Game Panel (Wisp):

  1. Log in to your Game Panel:
  2. Select your The Isle server
  3. You land on the Console: this is where you start, stop and restart the server, and follow its startup in real time

The most useful tabs for The Isle:

TabUse
ConsoleStart / stop the server, read the logs
FilesFile manager: Game.ini, Engine.ini, server data
StartupStartup parameters exposed by the panel
BackupsServer backups
SchedulesScheduled tasks, for example an automatic restart

You can also access the files over SFTP. The credentials are in Settings → SFTP Details: see SFTP extension for VSCode or use a client such as FileZilla or WinSCP.

Let the first startup finish

On the very first launch, the server creates its configuration files (Game.ini, Engine.ini) and data folders. Let it start fully once, then stop it before editing the configuration: the exact setting names are the ones found in the files generated by your version.

Finding the IP address and port

Your server address is shown in the Game Panel, on your server's page, in the IP:PORT format.

The default game port of a The Isle server is 7777 (UDP), but at YorkHost the port is assigned by the panel and may be different. Always use the one shown in the panel. Port opening is handled on our side (see Are all ports open?).

Do not change the port by hand

Do not change the game port in the configuration files: the server must listen on the port assigned by the panel, otherwise it will be unreachable. If you need an extra port (RCON, queue), see Configuring Game.ini and Engine.ini.

Joining the server from the game

The Isle is available on PC only, through Steam: all your players need the game on Steam and must run the same Evrima version as the server.

Once the panel console has settled (the server has finished starting):

  1. Launch The Isle (Evrima version)
  2. Open the server list from the main menu
  3. Search for your server by name (the one set in Game.ini)
  4. Join it and enter the password if you set one
Server not showing up right away?

After a start, it can take a short while before the server is visible in the list. Use a distinctive server name so it is easy to find. If nothing shows up, see Troubleshooting.

The first three settings to make

  1. Name, password and slots: set the server name, an optional password and the player count in Game.ini, see Configuring Game.ini and Engine.ini.
  2. Your admin rights: add your SteamID64 to the admin list, see Becoming an admin.
  3. Gameplay: AI, playable dinosaurs and growth speed, see AI, playable dinosaurs and growth.
