Server settings
Satisfactory server settings are managed in two places:
- The in-game Server Manager for most things: name, passwords, auto pause, autosave, network quality
- The configuration files (
Game.ini,Engine.ini) for a few advanced settings, such as the maximum number of players
Settings in the Server Manager
Connect to your server in the Server Manager with the admin password, then open the Server Settings tab. Depending on the game version, you will find in particular:
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Server name | Name shown in players' Server Manager |
| Admin password | Access to the server settings |
| Player password | Makes the server private (optional) |
| Auto-load session | Session the server reloads on startup |
| Auto Pause | Pauses the game when no player is connected |
| Auto Save on Disconnect | Saves when a player disconnects |
| Autosave interval | How often autosaves are made |
| Network Quality | Trade-off between smoothness and bandwidth |
Changes made in the Server Manager are applied by the server itself: you do not need to stop it.
Player password
To keep the server for your friends only, set a player password in the server settings. Players will have to enter it when they first connect. Do not give the admin password to regular players.
Pausing when the server is empty
With Auto Pause enabled, the factory stops when nobody is connected and resumes when a player comes back. This is the recommended setting for most groups: production does not progress while you are away, but the server uses far fewer resources.
Disable it if you want the factory to keep producing 24/7, keeping in mind that the simulation then runs all the time.
Autosave
The server saves the session at regular intervals. On a large factory, each save can cause a short slowdown: too short an interval is noticeable in game, too long an interval loses more progress in case of a crash. A few minutes up to a quarter of an hour is a good compromise.
The number of rotating autosaves kept can be increased in Engine.ini (see below). For full copies of the server, also use the panel's Backups tab.
Editing the configuration files
Always stop the server from the panel Console before editing an .ini file. The server rewrites its configuration files when it shuts down: a change made while the server is running may be overwritten.
- Log in to your Game Panel: game.yorkhost.fr
- Select your server and stop it
- Open the Files tab and go to the
FactoryGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/folder - Edit the file you need (create it if it does not exist yet)
- Save, then start the server
Since the server runs natively on Linux, its files are in the LinuxServer folder (not WindowsServer). This folder is created the first time the server starts.
Raising the player limit (MaxPlayers)
The dedicated server allows 4 players by default. To raise this limit, add or edit the following in Game.ini:
[/Script/Engine.GameSession]
MaxPlayers=8
Replace 8 with the value you want. More players build more and spread out the simulated area: beyond 8 players, choose a plan with more RAM, especially on a large factory (see Getting started).
A server update may rewrite the .ini files. After an update, check that your MaxPlayers value is still there.
Number of autosaves kept
In Engine.ini, the following section sets how many rotating autosaves are kept:
[/Script/FactoryGame.FGSaveSession]
mNumRotatingAutosaves=5
Each save takes up disk space: on a large factory, keep a reasonable value.
Advanced network settings
Some players adjust the server's network tick rate (NetServerMaxTickRate) in Engine.ini. These are advanced settings that can increase CPU load: start with the Server Manager's Network Quality setting, and make a copy of the file before any change.
Do not change the ports in the configuration files or in the startup parameters: the server must listen on the ports assigned by the panel. See Server ports.
Startup tab
The panel's Startup tab shows the startup parameters exposed for your server. Only change variables whose purpose you understand, and never those related to ports.
Forgotten admin password
The admin password cannot be recovered. The solution is to put the server back into an "unclaimed" state:
- Take a backup from the panel's Backups tab
- Stop the server
- In the server's
SaveGamesfolder (the parent of the folder that holds your session saves), find theServerSettings.<port>.savfile, where<port>is the server port - Delete this file (or rename it to be safe)
- Start the server, then claim it again from the Server Manager
Your sessions and game saves are not deleted, but the server settings (name, passwords, options) are reset: remember to set them again and to reselect the session to load. If you are unsure which file to delete, contact support.
