Create or import a session
On a Satisfactory dedicated server, a session is a game (a factory) with its successive saves. You can start a new one or carry on with your single-player factory. Everything is done from the game's Server Manager, once the server has been claimed.
Before loading another session or importing a save, take a server backup from the panel's Backups tab. Loading a session disconnects the players currently online.
Creating a new session
- Open the Server Manager and select your server (logged in with the admin password)
- Open the Create Game tab
- Enter a session name, choose the starting location and, if you like, the game settings offered by the game
- Start the creation: the server loads the new session
Your players can then join the server from their own Server Manager.
Uploading your single-player save from the Server Manager
This is the simplest and safest method:
- In the Server Manager, open the Manage Saves tab
- Use the Upload Save button
- Choose the save on your PC to upload
- Once the upload is complete, select the save in the server's list and load it
The game takes care of putting the file in the right place on the server.
Where are your single-player saves on Windows?
On your PC, Satisfactory saves are usually located in:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\<identifier>\
The <identifier> subfolder matches your account (Steam or Epic). Save files use the .sav extension. Paste the path into the Windows Explorer address bar to open it directly.
Importing a save over SFTP or the file manager
This method is useful for a very large save or if uploading from the game fails.
- Stop the server from the panel Console
- Connect over SFTP (credentials under Settings → SFTP Details) or open the Files tab
- Locate the server's save folder (see below)
- Drop your
.savfile into it - Start the server, then load the save from the Server Manager's Manage Saves tab
On a Linux server, dedicated server saves are usually stored in the .config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/ folder, starting from the server root. This path may vary between versions: the most reliable approach is to find the folder that already contains the .sav files of your session (after creating or loading a first session). A file placed anywhere else will not be seen by the server.
The folder name starts with a dot (.config): if your SFTP client does not show it, enable hidden files.
Do not edit or delete the ServerSettings files located near the saves: they contain the server claim and its settings (see Server settings).
Downloading a save from the server
To play the server's factory in single-player, or just to keep a copy:
- Connect over SFTP or open the Files tab
- In the server's save folder, download the most recent
.savfile of your session - Copy it into your local save folder (see above) to load it in single-player
For a full copy of the server, use the panel's Backups tab instead.
Autosaves and panel backups
The game creates autosaves of your session at regular intervals; their frequency is set in the Server Manager (see Server settings). On top of that, the panel's Backups tab lets you create, restore and schedule backups of the whole server, and the Schedules tab lets you automate these tasks.
Take a backup before every game update and before installing any mod: it is the best way to roll back if something goes wrong.
