Community-built Lantern solution

Grounded 2 doesn't ship an official dedicated server. We run the game with Lantern, an open-source project built by the community, with no ties to Obsidian or Xbox. To join, every player needs the game on Steam (PC) and the Lantern launcher on Windows. After a game update, there may be a short delay: we follow the project closely and our support team is there to help.

How to join

Join your server in 4 steps

Every player needs Grounded 2 on Steam (PC) and connects through the Lantern launcher on Windows, straight to your server's IP:port.

    Your server is set up automatically a few minutes after payment.

    Grab the address

    Your server's IP address and port are shown in the Wisp panel.

    Install Lantern

    With Grounded 2 on Steam, each player installs the Lantern launcher on their Windows PC, from the project's official page.

    Connect

    In the launcher, enter the server's IP:port and jump back into your world.

The server doesn't show up in the in-game session list

That's expected: you always connect through the Lantern launcher using your server's IP:port. Just share that address with your crew.

How your Grounded 2 server works

Lantern is an open-source, community-built framework. On our machines, the Steam version of Grounded 2 runs headless (under Wine), and LanternServer takes care of the rest.

Server status (A2S query)

The server answers standard status queries, handy for checking that it's online.

Admin commands sent to the server without having to join the game.

Grounded 2 server hosting: which server to pick and how to play

Renting a Grounded 2 server keeps your 4-player world available at all times: anyone can explore Brookhollow Park, gather resources or work on the base whenever they like, without waiting for the host or taxing their PC. Here's how to pick the right plan and get started.

Which plan fits your group?

Grounded 2 supports up to 4 players per world, a limit set by the game. Our plans don't differ by player slots, but by the resources available to your world.

  • Mite 3 vCores · 8 GBTo explore the backyard with 2 to 4 players.

These are rough guidelines: you can upgrade from your client area whenever your world grows.

No official dedicated server: where Lantern comes in

Obsidian doesn't release a dedicated server for Grounded 2. We use Lantern, an open-source, community-built framework: the Steam version of the game runs headless on our machines, while LanternServer handles server status, remote admin and backup snapshots.

It isn't an official solution: after a game update, there may be a delay while Lantern gets updated. We follow the project closely and roll out its updates.

Joining through the Lantern launcher

Your server won't show up in the in-game session list. Every player needs Grounded 2 on Steam (PC): they install the Lantern launcher, available on Windows only, then connect by entering the IP:port shown in your Wisp panel. The Xbox, PC Game Pass and PS5 versions can't join this type of server.

Share that address with your group: once connected, you'll find your world exactly as you left it, even if nobody has played for days.

Wisp panel, backups and support

You manage your server from the Wisp panel: live console, file manager, SFTP access, task scheduler and backups. Grounded 2 is in Early Access and gets regular updates, so take a backup before each one.

Our team answers 7 days a week on Discord to help with Lantern connections, restoring a backup or troubleshooting an issue.
